Game-changing Korean Perm from Du Sol Beauty: Here's Why.

‘Korean Designer Perm’, a natural-looking perm by Matthew Kim, Korean Hair Designer at Du Sol Beauty Novena with our model, Rachel

What is a ‘Korean Designer Perm’?

Here at Du Sol Beauty, we specialise in salon perms such as digital perms and that includes the Korean Designer Perm. It creates soft and natural looking curls that works well with all face shape. So subtle, your friends would think that you had it all along!

Not sure if which hairstyle is good for you? Try this out and you’ll never worry about your straight hair looking flat. (Don’t worry, it lasts really long.)

Interested? There’s more.

In this blog, we documented the perm process to show you how the magic happens. Keep scrolling to follow us through this 3 step visual guide.

Step 1 - Cleanse

Cleanse the Scalp with 3-Step Express Scalp Therapy

Why 3-Step Express Scalp Therapy?

This salon hair treatment keeps your scalp clean and healthy throughout the perm.

  1. Made for daily use.

  2. Protects scalp and roots from damage.

  3. Suitable for all hair types, such as oily and dandruff prone hair.

Apply a hair treatment on the scalp. We use our go-to Chanamu Tea Tree Scalp MultiVitamin Treatment. It freshens the scalp and protects the scalp from chemicals to prevent irritation and damage. Did we mention that it’s cooling? It is.

Apply it while massaging, so that the scalp and skin can absorb the vitamins faster.

Finish off with fine mist using the mist gun and we’re ready to start perming. The mist hydrates the scalp and opens the pores to improve the effectiveness of the perm.

Step 2 - Perm

Prep the Hair with Perm Lotion

Comb and spread perm solution thoroughly. The perm lotion helps to break the bonds of the hair, so that the hair is more malleable and receptive to the curls we create with the hair rods.

Here we are testing to see if the hair is ready to receive soft curls. The perm lotion helps to loosen the hair bonds, which allows it to curl during the perm process. When the hair gets elastic and stretchy, it is ready to perm.

Curl the Hair with Hair Iron and Perm Machine

Curl with the roots with a thin rod to lift and boost volume, so that your hair will be voluminous at the roots. Thin rods produce tight curls. As we are curling a small surface area, we want a stronger curl to keep the hair up.

Lack of volume is a common hair problem that most hair types will face. If you have a fine or thin hair type, you’re in luck! This step solves the concern without any effort on your part.

Section hair into parts, starting from the bottom. We section the hair to create layers of curls, which creates dimension and seamless curls.

Wind the Hair with Heat Rods

In this case, we do the opposite of the root perm. We use thicker heat rods to produce bigger and softer curls, so that it looks natural.

Heat from the heat rods evaporate the perming liquid to fix the curls, so that the hair stays curly after the perm.

You might be wondering, “The curls look too strong! That’s not natural at all.” And you’re right, which is why the next step is very important to achieve a natural looking perm.

Iron the Hair Curls

Ironing the hair curls is a key step in achieving a natural looking perm. Initially, we create strong curls with the setting machine. Then, we straighten the curl using a hair iron to create soft curls. This reduces the harshness of the curl.

We choose to use John and Jack’s Chameleon Magic in our hair salon. As you may know, applying heat will harm your hair, especially if your hair is wet. Not to fear! Due to its waterproof properties and ceramic coating, it reduces damage to your hair and keeps it to a minimum.

We recommend to use a heat protective product or a leave-in treatment for any hair styling with heat you do at home.

Neutralise the Hair

Spray the neutraliser through the hair and rinse. The neutraliser repairs hair bonds loosened by the perming lotion to get long lasting curls.

The intensity of the curls is reduced further, so that we are left with just the right amount of curl for that effortless and natural perm.

Step 3, Nourish

However, we’re not done yet! All chemical or heat process such as colouring and perming, must start and end with a nourishing hair treatment. This helps to restore your hair to a healthy state, so you can enjoy silky and shiny hair afterwards.

We apply a treatment serum to fix the damage from the perming. One of our favourite hair care products, Chanamu C No.3 Treatment (Curling) is ideal for this. Not only does it moisture your dry hair, it also helps to keep the curls in shape.

Did you know that you need to look after your perm? Here’s our tip on how to care for your permed hair at home. Use this leave-in treatment to make your hair smooth and easy to style. Just apply, leave in and go!

Spread throughout hair to coat evenly to attain the best results.

Last but not least, Blow Dry.

And we’re done!

What do you think?

Here’s a close up of Rachel’s hair texture before the hair treatment and Korean Perm. Limp, frizzy with visible split ends.

What a hair transformation! This perm works on other hair lengths too, from short hair to long hair.

To ensure that your perms stay, wait at least two to three days before washing your hair. The curls need time to set. Perms will last 3-6 months with proper care, so keep calm and carry on.
