How long do you actually need to leave your conditioner on?

Why do we soak our hair in conditioner before rinsing it off? It’s been a unspoken rule that we leave our conditioner on while we wash our body, but who truly know how long do we need to leave on our conditioner on?

Conditioner doesn’t actually moisturise your hair for long term. It simply coat your hair with a layer of moisturising to protect your hair from breakage as it smooths out your hair to avoid tangles. The coating after rinsing gives your hair smoother and shinier look.

So, how long do you actually need to leave the conditioner on your hair before rinsing it off?

Mostly the product description will ask you to leave it on for 10-15 mins. But not everyday you have the luxury of time to wait for your conditioner to sit in before you can wash it off. After a long way of work, you just want to have a nice shower and relax for the rest of the day. Who wants to spend that extra 15 minutes standing in the shower to wait for your conditioner to sit? Well, good news. Normally conditioners work as well even though you don’t leave your conditioner on for as long as the manufacturer says.

HOW APPLY CONDITIONER FOR ITS BEST RESULT?

After shampooing, you should always squeeze as much water as you can out of your hair before applying conditioner. Water in your hair might make the conditioner slip off easily, making difficult for it to work its magic. ✨

Now, how much conditioner should you use? The answer is simple. As long as it thinly coats the bottom part of you hair, it’s sufficient. If you feel that your hair is still not clean or heavy after rinsing it off, you should reconsider how much conditioner you’re using. More is not always good. Sometimes, you’re just plain wasting your product.

4 -5 minutes should be enough time for the conditioner to give you its best shot. During this, you might want to comb our your hair with just your fingers to ensure that the product have been distributed evenly. When you do it properly, you will find your hair to be light and smooth after rinsing it off.

WHAT IF I DON’T USE CONDITIONER?

I mean, if you’re going for that style, sure. But you can also achieve this look with a much healthier method.

When you don’t use conditioner, you’ll find that your hair is much more tangled. And because it’s tangled, breakage of hair will increase too. That would cause frizziness, fly away and dryness. Because you no longer have the protective layer for your hair, its more prone to all the harmful elements in the air.

In conclusion,

Conditioning your hair is always a good idea. But, you don’t have to drench your hair in it and waste time wondering if you have left the conditioner long enough in your hair while you stand in the middle of you bathroom. Create your own shower routine, it will save you time and effort. Time to have a relaxing shower.
